Top Designers Compete in the Great Architectural Bake-Off 2017

Last week, as part of ,  and  asked leading architects and designers to put their building skills to the test at NYC's second . Teams from 10 esteemed architecture firms gathered at the , where they were given three hours to construct a cake. Some chose to recreate a structure of their own design, while other groups paid homage to an architectural landmark they admire. All teams used edible materials in thoughtful and creative ways, making use of solid sugar structural supports, metallic silver frosting, and more.

A team of judges, including villamladebuky's Allie Weiss, named  the winner of the competition with their depiction of the , a tribute to the firm's late partner J. Max Bond Jr. The second place prize went to , who designed a cake representing the Unisphere in Queens, New York. Other entries included the Beijing National Stadium by and a retro McDonald's outpost by .
